A unique way to celebrate Mothers Day, the Melrose Running Club invites you to participate in the eleventh running of the Melrose Run For Women on Sunday, May 11th. A Melrose Mothers' Day tradition, approximately 400 women gather each year for this family event honoring mothers and children. Kids races kick the day off, followed by the main event, a 3.5 mile run/walk which winds through the scenic and peaceful Swains Pond section of the city. The race finishes up with children handing out flowers, a bounty of baked goods and coffee, music, massages, and awards. Awards are given to the top finishers, the first mother and grandmother to finish, and best mother/daughter team finishes. Awards are also given to top age group finishers. A portion of your entry fee is donated to the Melrose Alliance Against Violence. MAAV is a domestic violence prevention and education organization in Melrose. Since the races inception in 1998 the Melrose Running Club has donated $42,000 to the MAAV. This race is truly a celebration of women of all ages and abilities, you won't want to miss it. Be sure to invite your mother, your sisters, your daughters, and your friends! |
